Citizens Tax Protest Project was created by a group of Texas homeowners who believe the property tax protest process should be accessible to everyone.
Right now, most homeowners who protest their taxes rely on professional tax protest services that take 25–40% of whatever savings they win. The savings are real, but a significant cut goes to the service every year. Meanwhile, the tools and data those services use aren't secret; they're available to anyone who knows where to look.
We built Citizens Tax Protest Project to change that. Our goal is to give every Texas homeowner the knowledge, guidance, and tools they need to protest their own appraisal (for free!). You already have the legal right to challenge your assessment. We want to make sure you have the resources you need to actually do it.
The best place to start is our free tool — enter your address to see how your appraisal compares to similar homes nearby and find out how much you might save by protesting yourself. If the data doesn't show a strong case for your property, it may be worth looking into a professional tax protest service to see if they can find an angle you can't. Either way, you'll be making an informed decision about your own taxes instead of leaving money on the table.
